Dell is set to make a significant pricing announcement on Thursday, setting up a news teleconference between reporters and Ro Parra, the company's senior vice president and general manager of its Home and Small Business Group.

According to an advisory, "Dell will announce news and answer questions pertaining to a major pricing initiative" out of Parra's unit, and said it would "impact consumers and small businesses" who buy from Dell.

A Dell spokesman declined to provide additional details, but acknowledged top company executives have been vowing to stay aggressive on pricing throughout its product line in an effort to win back momentum and market share it lost between last year and earlier this year.

"It's along those lines," said the spokesman, Venancio Figueroa. The announcement would not, he said, pertain to any additional announcements regarding Round Rock, Texas-based Dell and chip maker Advanced Micro Devices, Sunnyvale, Calif.
