Dell has been showing off the Streak 5-inch Android tablet since February. In May, the company confirmed that the device will go on sale "this summer." A mistake on the Dell Web site Tuesday morning led many to believe that it was going to be released this week.

The Streak is available for pre-order. According to what the Dell Web site posted Tuesday, those who pre-ordered the Stream were told to expect an email with purchase details for the device. Turns out that was a goof up.

Speaking to Computer World, Dell spokesperson Matt Parretta said, "It was a mistake, and we took that information down this morning. I can say definitely that the Dell Streak won't go on sale in July." That's a shame, though Dell's own Web site notes that the device will be available in July. Get your story straight, Dell!

We did learn some other details, however. First, Dell has confirmed that the Streak will be compatible with AT&T's network and not T-Mobile's. That means AT&T customers will be able to use the Streak to its fullest potential, with access to 3G speeds.

We also learned the price. According to the Dell Web site, the Streak will cost $299 with a new AT&T contract. It will also be available for the full retail price of $549, though Dell wouldn't say if the full-price handset would be sold unlocked.

The Streak is a monstrous Android slab. It has a 5-inch WVGA touchscreen, Qualcomm's 1GHz Snapdragon Processor, 2GB internal storage, support for 32GB microSD cards, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, and a front-facing camera. It will support AT&T's 850/1900MHZ 3G network, and also includes, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.1 radios.

The most disappointing factor of the device is that it will launch with Android 1.6. Dell has confirmed, however, that it will be updated to Android 2.2 later this year. Of course, the device has to actually make it to market, first...
