As the LinuxWorld lovefest kicked off in San Francisco on Monday, Dell said it will sell and support both MySQL databases and the JBoss application server.
That means the Round Rock, Texas, computer giant is now supporting two more layers of the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP/Perl) stack.
This software stack, pieces of which are furnished by various vendor and open-source groups, is taking on the Microsoft Windows behemoth on servers.
Dell will itself offer MySQL Network, the MySQL subscription support service delivered since February by MySQL and, subsquently, by Ingram Micro.
Atlanta-based JBoss already partners with such hardware powers as Apple, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, NEC, Sun Microsystems and Unisys.
Dell is pushing the LAMP configuration atop its upcoming PowerEdge 830 and 850 servers that will ship this month starting at $699 and $749, respectively.
