If you came to this post looking for more information on either the Pre or the iPhone, you came to the wrong place. There are other platforms out there, and this one is about Windows Mobile.Engadget got the scoop on the new Samsung Omnia II. A quick rundown of the specs are:
3.7" 800x480 Active-Matrix OLED screen
8.1MP camera that can record video at 30fps
Windows Mobile 6.1
There were no other specs, like the processor or included RAM, but with a screen like that, it is a safe bet Samsung pack in enough power to show full screen video on it, and that power will be able to handle just about anything else you'd care to use the phone for. Hopefully Samsung is planning on providing an upgrade to the device allowing users to move to WinMo 6.5 when the new OS launches.
You can see by the screen shot that it has a custom user interface, one that looks more finger friendly than WinMo 6.1 is.
With all of the excitement over the Pre and iPhone this week, it is easy to forget about other phones right now. Clearly though Microsoft's partners are pushing forward with some killer hardware. Devices like the Omnia II and HTC Touch Pro 2 have specs that would make any phone aficionado drool. The manufacturers have customized the UI though so the phones at least look like they were made in the latter half of this decade. They are just waiting on Microsoft to catch up. A lot is riding on 6.5.
