Even though the real nitty gritty on Windows Phone 7 Series development will be at the 2010 Mix event in Las Vegas in just over a week, Microsoft has released some information late Thursday that should shed some light on things. As has been rumored, Silverlight and XNA will be big players in WinPho 7 development, but they aren't the only game in town. .NET and others have been invited to the party too.

There where three areas that the Windows Mobile team focused on for the new platform. The full list and discussion is at the blog post, but the one I wanted to focus on is "enable developers to profit." To do that, the tools have to be easily accessible, easy to use and capable of building very powerful apps.
Silverlight and XNA fit those bills, but a lot of developers I've talked to were worried that they weren't powerful enough for some of their apps. By allowing .NET, the apps should only be limited by the developer's imagination and skills. As Mr. Kindel said:
If you are a .NET developer today your skills and much of your code will move forward. If you are Silverlight or XNA developer today you're gonna be really happy. New developers to the platform will find a cohesive, well designed API set with super productive tools.
If you are a developer and are considering Windows Phone 7 Series as a platform, you should consider attending MIX. If you are not a developer but are interested in Microsoft's next move, this info should at least show you that MS is taking the new platform seriously from an app standpoint.
