Diversetrade.com Positioned As eBay AlternativeDiversetrade.com Positioned As eBay Alternative
The Dutch owner is positioning the new entry as a "no-nonsense" Web site that will enable buyers and sellers to conduct business "at a fraction of existing auction website charges." The reference is to eBay, which recently raised its fees for sellers.
Seeking to take advantage of eBay's recent price increases, a group of entrepreneurs from The Netherlands has launched an online auction site, called Diversetrade.com.
DiverseLab Developments, the company which founded the site, doesn't cite eBay by name in its press release. However, the firm said in a statement that the auction site "was created as an alternative platform in response to a well-known auction website enforcing significant prices increases " in some cases up to 200 percent."
The price increases for eBay store sellers went into effect earlier this week. When eBay announced the price increases, it said the average storeowner would experience an increase of 6 percent. The increased fees, however, are calculated differently for different transactions and some sellers have complained that their fees would be higher than that.
In a statement, the co-founder of the Dutch site Maurice Valentijin said: "We offer an alternative " Diversetrade.com is a no-nonsense website bringing together sellers and buyers at a fraction of existing auction website charges."
Dutch is the official language of the site although the domain is global and some listings are in English.
Diversetrade is staffed with 12 persons including four fulltime employees, the company noted. The staffers man an online help desk for the site.
