Microsoft issues guides to make Windows installations less expensive and more effective.
Microsoft this week introduced guides for installing Windows more effectively and at lower cost.
The company issued Microsoft Solutions for Management, five guides for companies to use for tasks such as patch management and installing new desktop applications across the entire enterprise. Short versions of the guide are free, with customized versions and additional services available from Avanade and Microsoft Consulting.
The Critical Path Deployment guide is designed to help companies use Microsoft Systems Management Server and Software Update Services to distribute critical updates, bug fixes, and security patches.
The New Application installation guide is designed to help companies use Systems Management Server to install Office XP and other Microsoft desktop software.
The Monitoring and Control of Windows 2000 Services and Applications Guide is designed to help companies manage Windows 2000 servers using Active Directory, Exchange Server 2000, and Operations Manager 2000.
Microsoft also released System Architecture for the Enterprise Data Center, a guide to creating and managing data centers using Windows 2000 Server and .Net Enterprise Servers. Previously, the company had issued similar guides for Unix and SQL Server migration.
