Sun Microsystems' (SUNW--Nasdaq) revenue for its second quarter ended Dec. 30 fell to $3.19 billion, a drop of nearly 40% from the year-ago quarter. Sun posted a net loss of $431 million, including charges, compared with $423 million in net income in the year-earlier quarter. Bright spots included the sellout of its high-end 106-CPU server and the near-doubling of sales of four- and eight-way servers compared with the first quarter, president Ed Zander says. Sun also is making headway in new markets, he says, including life sciences and health care.
