German police Thursday arrested five suspects and are seeking another in a phishing scam that took Postbank customers to the tune of 30,000 ($40,184).

According to Heise Online, Postbank customers received e-mails asking for PIN and transaction numbers to resolve a security problem, then were led to a legitimate-looking site -- actually bogus -- where they were asked to divulge the data.

Users' PCs were also infected with a Trojan horse, said authorities, that activated itself every time a Postbank customer initiated a network connection to the online bank. The Trojan blocked legit transactions to guarantee that the only ones able to access the accounts remotely were the criminals.

A spokesman for the Bonn public prosecutor's office refused to give out more details, citing security concerns for the postal bank, which boasts some 12 million customers in Germany.

The names of the five arrested were also not released, nor was the name of the one suspect prosecutors said was still at large.
