Programs and clips from MTV, Comedy Central, VH1, and other channels from MTV Networks will be available online for free starting in February.

MTV Networks will provide free on-demand streaming through Imeem under a deal announced by the two companies this week.

"MTVN is the first major media company to make such a comprehensive amount of its premium TV programming available online through Imeem, which already offers music. Last month, Imeem became the first social networking company to add video from all four major record labels," Matt Graves, VP of marketing and communications for Imeem, said in a statement.

Ads will support the service, which users can access at no charge. Imeem's 20 million users can watch and share videos, listen to music, add favorites, create playlists, and form groups.

Graves said the move would boost the company's offerings for its core demographic of users age 24 and under while also appealing to older viewers who watch The Colbert Report and The Daily Show With Jon Stewart.

"By enabling fans to create and share playlists of clips from their favorite MTVN shows, we're moving closer to realizing our vision of enabling consumers to discover and express themselves in entirely new ways with popular music and video through Imeem," Steve Jang, chief marketing officer of Imeem, said in a statement.

Jang said the social media networking site plans to expand its video offerings, and the MTVN deal -- which releases thousands of clips through channels for each of its brands -- is a step in that direction.

Imeem already offers promotional content from the Showtime, CW, and NBC television networks, as well as promos and full-length movies. It also offers free full-length, streaming access to the entire music and video catalogs of all four major music companies.

Greg Clayman, executive VP of digital distribution and business development for MTVN, said the deal will engage fans with MTVN's content.
