Fujitsu Computer Systems on Tuesday unveiled a new notebook computer designed for health-care industry users, including nurses and doctors.

The new LifeBook B6000 mobile notebook computer features a 12.1-inch touch-screen monitor that's several inches larger and 50% brighter than Fujitsu's previous LifeBook 3000 notebook, says Paul Moore, Fujitsu's director of product marketing. The new notebook also features 2-Gbyte memory, which is double the 1-Gbyte memory of the older LifeBook 3000, he says. The new model also features an Intel Pentium M ULV753 processor.

Priced at $1,649 and available now, the LifeBook 6000 features address needs that health-care users expressed to Fujitsu, Moore says. "Aging nurses say they need larger, brighter screens to improve visibility," he says. The notebooks are frequently used on nursing carts that are rolled into patient rooms. Meanwhile, hospital doctors prefer larger screens when looking at patient records and using computerized order-entry systems for patient tests, drugs, or other procedures, Moore says.

The new notebook weighs 3.3 pounds and also features a microphone for physician dictation, he says. The older LifeBook 3000 will be phased out, he says. The LifeBook 6000 will feature Bluetooth wireless support options.
