Average consumer electronics prices have dropped radically in recent months due largely to steep declines in the retail prices of plasma TVs and digital cameras.

The Reuters news agency reported yesterday that dramatically lower prices for plasma TVs and digital cameras have caused the largest drop in the price of consumer electronics in five months.
That conclusion emerged from a study prepared for Reuters by the NPD Group, a Port Washington, New York-based market information company.
Plasma TV prices declined about $250, a 9.2 percent drop, according to Reuters.
Since August, the average price for a three-megapixel digital camera fell by 6 percent, and may average below $200 per camera for the holiday buying season.
Prices on other products based on flat-panel screens also dropped. 20-inch LCD TVs declined by 3.8 percent and 17inch PC monitors declined by 6 percent, according to the article.
Reuters also reported price drops for digital video cameras, DVD recorders, and memory cards.
