Sales will benefit the Starlight Children's Foundation, which helps seriously ill children and their families.
An e-commerce site that sells computer hardware and software is bringing girl gamers and manufacturers together for an online charity auction.
NewBiiz.com said Thursday that it will auction Thermaltake, Logitech, Palit, Antec, Gigabyte, Biostar, Audio4Fun, and other companies' products on eBay Giving Works to benefit the Starlight Children's Foundation. The foundation provides entertainment, education, and activities to seriously ill children and their families.
eBay's Giving Works features allows sellers to donate part or all of their earnings to nonprofit groups. NewBiiz said it would donate 100% of its proceeds.
NewBiiz launched a Girl Geek section of its Web site in July to encourage girls and women to participate in the male-dominated tech culture. The site features IT articles, expos, products, and profiles of "Girl Geeks," who have changed the technology and gaming industries through participation and development. Many of the products, like the Asus EEE notebook in pink, are made for women.
The site has featured Ciji Thornton, known among Guitar Hero community members as StarSlay3r. For the auction, she will offer an autographed Guitar Hero controller with a custom skin.
"I was extremely excited to see that NewBiiz showed an interest in helping these ill children and their families in these tough times," Thornton said. "I hope that gamers and non gamers alike will come together to show their support for this great cause." The auction runs until the end of September.
NewBiiz offers PC hardware components, networking equipment, software and consumer electronics. The company is headquartered in San Jose.
