Good Technology Adds Android SupportGood Technology Adds Android Support
The company will also offer iPhone and Pre support to help companies whose employees use personal devices to access enterprise networks.
Good Technology said Tuesday its enterprise mobile messaging software would now include support for Apple's iPhone, the Palm Pre, and multiple Android devices.
While Research In Motion's BlackBerry lineup still maintains a dominant position in the enterprise smartphone space, Good said companies are increasingly having to support handsets employees want to bring to the network. This "consumerization" of enterprise mobility can lead to cost savings because the employees will often buy the device themselves, but it does present logistical and security headaches. Good increased support of Good for Enterprise beyond Windows Mobile and Symbian in order to address these issues.
"The iPhone has changed the game in the enterprise," said Brian Bogosian, CEO and president of Good, in a statement. "IT managers want to give employees the freedom to use the newest, most capable devices, but until now security and manageability challenges have made that problematic."
Apple's touch-screen smartphone has frequently been finding its way into corporate settings thanks to its sales success in the consumer market. The iPhone 3GS does feature stronger enterprise features thanks to its encryption and stronger Exchange integration, but some security experts say it won't be enterprise-ready until it has background processing for monitoring purposes.
Good's mobile software suite includes push e-mail support for Outlook and Lotus Notes, as well as enterprise-grade device management and security features like remote locking and wiping. The Mobile Access program also enables companies to deliver secure applications like corporate intranets or Web-based apps to handsets.
After it was sold by Motorola earlier this year, Good said it plans to offer its messaging software to as many platforms as possible.
