Google Inc. on Thursday confirmed that it is testing a redesigned page for presenting search results.
A screenshot of the page has been floating around the Web. The major difference between the reformatted page shown on the screenshot and the current page is a list of search links in a column on the left-hand side.
The links are to search Google images, groups and news and its Froogle shopping network and local mapping and search service. Small bar graphs also appear next to each link, but their purpose isn't clear.
Google on Thursday confirmed it is testing a new results page, which is being seen by a small percentage of users.
"We're continually testing new interfaces and features to enhance the user experience," a spokeswoman said in an email. "This is one such test, which only a small percentage of users will see."
The Mountain View, Calif., search engine refused to provide further details.
