Not many companies spend $239 million in a quarter on data-center capital expenditures, but for Google that's way down from the whopping levels it reached during its power-spending data-center buildouts in '07 and '08.The always-informative Rich Miller over at DataCenterKnowledge.com plucked the numbers from Google's recent quarterly financial results and has the full story in an article called Google Data Center Spending Up Slightly. Here are a couple of highlights:

**Google invested $239 million in capital spending on its IT infrastructure in the first quarter of 2010, a slight uptick from the $221 million it spent in the fourth quarter. The company's capital expenditures (CapEx) have trended modestly higher over the last four quarters, but remain at about a quarter of what the company spent at the height of its data center building program.

**Miller's chart of quarter-by-quarter capital expenditures for Google's massive data-center infrastructure shows that its peak investment period ranged from Q4 of '07 through Q2 of '08 when, per quarter, the company's IT infrastructure capex came in at $678M, $842M, and $698M. The low point came in Q2 of '09 when the global economic downturn caused Google to chop data-center capex spending to $139M.

As always, Miller offers fresh insights and perspectives along with all relevant details, and you can read his full story here.
