Google must have realized that spurning existing T-Mobile customers wasn't doing it any favors. According to an internal memo, Google has decided to drop the price of the Nexus One from $379 to $279 for T-Mobile customers who are eligible for an upgrade. New customers still pay only $179.This is probably the right move for Google to make at the moment. Current T-Mobile customers were none too happy to learn that if they wanted to buy the Nexus One, they'd have to fork over $200 more than brand new T-Mobile customers. That would get anyone's ire up. Perhaps that has played a role in the purported weak sales of the Nexus One so far.

The new breakdown on pricing for the Nexus One is as follows:

* $529 - Unlocked, no contracts. * $279 - Existing T-Mobile customers eligible for an upgrade with a renewed contract. * $179 - Brand new T-Mobile customers with two-year contract.

According to the memo, which was spied by TmoNews, those T-Mobile customers who paid $379 for their Nexus One will receive a $100 refund at some point.

I reached out to Google's Android PR team, and I have yet to hear back from them. If you're hot for a Nexus One, I'd wait until Google has confirmed this new pricing structure before clicking "buy".
