Today Google added another business-oriented company to the swath of acquisitions it has made this year. It has bought up DocVerse, a Web-based office productivity company. Google has also turned around and made the source code for reMail -- which it also recently acquired -- open via an Apache license.According to Google, DocVerse is a group of developers who "share our vision." DocVerse enables Web-based collaboration within Microsoft Office. It helps bridge the gap between desktop software and cloud-based software. Google believes this acquisition will further help organizations and businesses transition their productivity apps to the cloud.

Google also made an interesting announcement today about reMail. ReMail is a search utility that archives the text in the user's email account. ReMail only supported one email account at a time, but it would index everything, including subject lines and body text, as far back as a user choose to. The archives were then stored locally on the iPhone, meaning iPhone users could search through their email at any time -- even when no network connection was present. Google bought the company on February 17. At the time, there was a lot of conjecture about reMail's future. Today, Google told what that future is.

reMail founder, Gabor Cselle, published a blog post today explaining the new direction for reMail. He writes, "We decided that the best option was to open source the code, which is now available on Google Code as remail-iphone under the Apache 2.0 License. My hope is that developers interested in making email-related apps can use reMail code as a starting point. If you have a great mobile email idea, I hope you will find reMail's source code helpful in your quest."

The reMail code is available here.

Google has posted a video walk-through of what the reMail code can be used for. Check it out:
