H&R Block opened the e-doors of its TaxCut Online preparation service Monday, the last of the top three providers of federal and state tax preparation and filing returns to go live.

TaxCut executives said that the new edition has trimmed the number of screens shown to taxpayers by about 75 percent, and makes importing existing information into a return easier than before.

TaxCut Online prices start at $5.95 for a federal return, $14.95 for a state return, with e-filing included in the price.

TaxCut competitors TurboTax Online and TaxBrain have been live for more than a week. However, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) doesn't begin accepting electronically filed returns until Friday, Jan. 13.

TaxCut Online is available at its own dedicated site, or from the H&R Block Web site.
