A New Delhi center will handle calls related to workers' flexible-spending health-care accounts and other general inquiries.
Hewitt Associates LLC, the human-resource outsourcing company, plans next year to open a call center outside New Delhi to handle inquiries from employees at Hewitt's client companies.
Bryan Doyle, outsourcing business leader at Hewitt, says the center will handle calls related to workers' flexible-spending health-care accounts and other general inquiries.
Some of that work is done at Hewitt call centers near Chicago and Houston, but Doyle says "cost factors" led to the company's decision to move the work offshore.
A Hewitt spokeswoman said the move would not result in the closure of any Hewitt facilities in the United States. A "minimal" number of Hewitt's U.S. workers will be affected, and attempts will be made to reassign them. The New Delhi call center will be staffed by 300 to 500 Indian workers.
