HP Envy 17 3D Laptop

Hewlett-Packard has introduced its first 3D laptop, which also includes a Blu-ray DVD player and HP's best audio system.

The entertainment-focused Envy 17 3D includes a high-definition 1080p display and comes with one pair of special glasses for watching 3D movies. For sound, the system comes with Beats Audio, which was developed by HP and Beats by Dr. Dre. The audio system provides a richer bass when listening with a pair of headphones.

The new Envy has a 17.3-inch screen and can also play 2D video. To get the customer's library started, HP includes with select models the 2010 NBA All-Star Game in 3D and a movie trailer for the upcoming animated film "MegaMind" from DreamWorks Animation SKG.

The system has a brushed aluminum exterior and is available with up to 2 terabytes of storage. Powering the laptop is a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 discrete graphics card, which supports multiple external displays.

The Envy 17 3D is scheduled to be available in time for the holiday shopping season. Pricing will be announced closer to the release date, said HP.

HP also introduced on Wednesday the smaller Envy 14 Beats Edition, which was designed and engineered for audiophiles and DJs. Besides including the Beats Audio system, the Envy 14 comes with Beats headphones that include an advanced driver design for more precise audio clarity.

Preloaded software for the Envy 14, as well as the Envy 17, includes Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 and Adobe Premiere Elements 8 for photo and video editing.

Other features of the Envy 14 include a 14-inch screen, a choice of Intel Core processors, and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics card. The system offers up to 6.5 hours of battery life.

The Envy 14, in addition to the Envy 15 Beats launched last year, are available at retailers as of Wednesday. Prices start at $1,249.

Finally, for people who want to easily stream content from their HP systems to a digital TV, the company introduced TV Connect, a wireless system that can stream 1080p multimedia content, such as Blu-ray movies.

The system works by attaching an adapter to the laptop PC and another to an HDTV via its HDMI port. No software has to be installed and the PC adapter is powered by the laptop's USB port.

TV Connect is scheduled to be available next month with a starting price of $199.
