Hewlett-Packard on Tuesday unveiled a series of new black-and-white laser printers, all with a street price of less than $1,500, as the company continues to see expansion in the monochrome laser segment.

HP said it plans to ship the HP LaserJet 1018 ($129) and the HP LaserJet 5200 ($1,439), which has wide-format and HP Instant-On technology, on May 1. Shipping immediately is the new HP LaserJet 3050 ($299) multifunction device, which has printer, scanner, copier and fax capabilities and produces an output of up to 19 pages per minute.

In addition, Palo Alto, Calif.-based HP plans to roll out two color laser printers. The HP Color LaserJet 1600 ($299), an entry-level desktop printer, is slated to ship May 1, and the HP Color LaserJet 2605 ($699), which has memory card slots, is due June 1.

Tom Codd, director of HP's LaserJet business, said the two main segments the company is aiming at with the new products are emerging geographies, such as China, and the in-house marketing collateral space. HP executives have said they believe in-house marketing collateral represents a strong opportunity to capture share of all pages printed annually worldwide.
