Microsoft announced at the 2010 CES show on Wednesday that the HTC HD2 running Windows Mobile would be coming to T-Mobile this spring. The HD2 is the premier Windows Mobile smartphone right now and has been getting favorable reviews against any other device on the market today. The HD2 has the Toshiba Snapdragon processor running at 1GHz, which gives it the power to handle just about anything you can throw at it. It has a 4.3 inch capacitive touch screen with an 800 by 480 pixel resolution. Windows Mobile 6.5 doesn't directly support the HD2's multi-touch capabilities but HTC has written the drivers that support it. The HD2 comes with apps, like the photo app, that will let you use multi-touch. You'll need to see where your third party vendors are though on updating their apps to directly support it. Windows Mobile 7, due out towards the end of this year, should have this built in.
HTC has been known lately to put their custom UI on WinMo devices so they are more competitive with other offerings. Until now, this has been best known as TouchFlo 3D. The HD2 though gets the Sense UI, which has been on its Android devices for a few months.
Of course, the phone has many other features that you would expect, like a 5MP camera, Wi-Fi, bluetooth and more. It will run on T-Mobile's 3G network.
One of the most exciting bits of news is the rumor that the HD2 will be upgradable to WinMo 7. WinMo 7 has some very high hardware requirements and the HD2 meets them all.
No pricing has been set yet and availability is sometime "this spring." We'll have to wait for more details from T-Mobile to fill in the blanks. If you are on the T-Mo network though and looking for a new phone in the next few months, this one should definitely be on your short list.
