I have some bad news if you were anxiously awaiting the HTC HTC Touch Pro. It looks like the touch-screen smartphone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard has been delayed. The Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone was originally supposed to be on sale Oct. 19, but a Sprint representative told Bonnie Cha over at CNET:
"Sprint expects to slightly delay launch of the Touch Pro by HTC to ensure we have adequate inventory in all channels before making the device commercially available. Customers can expect the device to become available in select national retailers by the end of the month and then in all Sprint sales channels including online at www.sprint.com and Sprint Stores by early November."
So, it looks like it's only a minor delay, and it shouldn't be that big of deal. If you're unsure, the Touch Pro is like the Touch Diamond on steroids. It has the slide-out tactile keyboard and expandable memory, is a bit thicker, and will cost a little more.
When I reviewed the HTC Touch Diamond, I was a bit put off by the virtual keyboard. I still say it's a bit too cramped in portrait mode, particularly near the edges of the screen. But I think the Touch Pro will be a strong alternative to BlackBerrys for the business crowds, and it should be cool enough to stick in the face of your snooty friends with iPhones.
