Just a week after announcing plans to buy storage software maker FilesX, IBM has acquired data-deplication specialist Diligent Technologies.Terms of the deal weren't disclosed, though Diligent will be folded into IBM's System Storage business. Diligent's disk-based data protection solutions -- ProtecTIER, VTF Open and VTF Mainframe -- are designed to help companies reduce the amount and cost of physical storage required in their data centers.
The acquisition furthers Big Blue's quest to control the storage systems market. "Diligent's industry-proven data deduplication offerings are exceptionally suited for midrange and enterprise clients," said Andy Monshaw, general manager of IBM System Storage, in a statement. Combined with IBM's own offerings, Monsaw says clients will realize reduced infrastructure costs, improved energy efficiency in the data center and full utilization of their information on demand.IT Week
