IBM plans to add at least 5,000 business-process outsourcing jobs in India in 2010 to meet rising demand, according to a senior advisory consultant for the company. IBM has been building a huge workforce in India, although 2009's company headcount in that country remained flat due to the global recession.From an Economic Times Of India article:
"We plan to focus more in the services sector by opening more BPO centres in India. We would recruit at least 5,000 peopleto support this expansion," IBM Poland's senior advisory consultant, Selby Mascarenhas, said in New Delhi.
IBM is bullish on the growth prospect of the services sector in the domestic economy, which ranges from software- related services to looking after the HR aspects of some core manufacturing companies, Mascarenhas said.
IBM has significant facilities in major Indian cities including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Gurgaon, and Kolkata, Mascarenhas said in the article, and will likely expand those facilities rather than opening new ones in small cities.
