IBM has confirmed it's in the midst of an internal research project to see whether migration to Macintosh and Linux systems is a viable option for its own workforce. The pilot program, however, doesn't indicate an imminent strategy shift within the company, said an IBM spokeswoman. "Researchers at our IBM Labs are doing what they do best -- trying out new things," she said. "A one-size-fits-all client computing platform no longer provides IBM's global employees with the flexibility to innovate and be productive while containing IT expenses."

About 100 people are involved in the test, which was launched in October and, according to e-zine RoughlyDrafted, has received an enthusiastic response.Computerworld, RoughlyDrafted
