JDS Uniphase Corp. completed its acquisition of IBM's optical-transceiver business for a stock-and-cash deal valued at $340 million. JDS (JDSU-Nasdaq) would have to pay IBM another $85 million in cash or stock early next year if the unit reaches certain performance goals. Based in Rochester, Minn., JDS makes small transceivers and Gigabit Interface Converters for storage networks and Fibre Channel or Gigabit Ethernet LANs. The acquisition gives JDS its first commercial short-haul telecom and networking products.
