A new service has cut check-cashing fraud by 93% at Brown & Cole, a grocery chain in Oregon and Washington. Brown & Cole is using True ID from Identico Systems LLC at 25 of its 44 stores to verify payroll checks that customers cash. Here's how it works: A driver's license is swiped through a scanner, which sends the information, including the photograph, to an Identico database via a virtual private network for approval.
