Tuesday the big news were the rumors about the upcoming iPad 3 announcement. Now that we have the announcement, how did our rumor mongering fare? Let's compare Jacob Lopez's story to the actual news.

First, everyone was presuming that the device would be called the iPad 3, but Apple is not using that name. At the event and in the press materials it is just "the new iPad." Apple might be adopting the iPod-naming convention, as in "iPad (third generation)".

Rumor 1) The iPad 3 will have a retina display.

Jay and everyone else got this right. The display does look really impressive and the specs certainly are.

Rumor 2) The iPad 3 will support 4G LTE.

Yes, this also turned out to be true, although there are some caveats. Verizon and AT&T will have new iPads, as will providers in other countries, but neither T-Mobile nor Sprint were mentioned.

Rumor 3) The iPad 3's camera will have a higher resolution.
