Defense Contractor Lockheed Martin Corp. says its second-quarter sales of IT services grew 18% year over year to $917 million.

The services unit won outsourcing contracts from the Environmental Protection Agency and NASA, which the company says played a significant part in the increase. The EPA is paying Lockheed Martin $143 million, and NASA paid $130 million.

Lockheed Martin inherited much of its NASA outsourcing business when it acquired Affiliated Computer Services' government outsourcing arm in December.

Overall, Lockheed Martin says sales for the quarter, which ended June 30, rose 14%, to $8.8 billion, while net income increased 22%, to $296 million. Earnings per share rose 22%, to 66 cents.
