IBM Lotus is gearing up to ship its long-awaited Learning Management System by the end of February. The software is designed to track and manage courses for employees, and lets training managers write courses from scratch or develop new courses using existing content, such as CD-ROMs or Internet resources.

Learning Management System will run on Java 2 Enterprise Edition and comes with IBM's WebSphere portal server. Users of Lotus Domino also will be able to take advantage of the threaded-discussion feature in Domino to communicate during online courses. The system is compatible with other threaded-discussion software. The package costs about $60 per user
