Supply-chain management and execution software vendor Manugistics Group Inc. will acquire order management technology from SpaceWorks Inc. and incorporate it into existing products to let companies manage the entire order-to-delivery process.

Spaceworks, in Rockville, MD., ceased operation this month. Manugistics is buying the company's software code and some unspecified assets for an undisclosed amount. David MacSwain, former president and CEO of SpaceWorks, says the deal will benefit his company's customers, which include BF Goodrich, GE Aircraft Engines, and Maytag Corp., because Manugistics will be able to continue to offer them support and software upgrades.

Manugistics chairman and CEO Greg Owens says SpaceWorks' technology will enhance Manugistics customers' visibility into transactions throughout the order life cycle. The deal is subject to final approval by the boards of Manugistics and Spaceworks.
