It looks like all those smartphone users out there are doing more than just sending e-mail. According to a new study by researcher Telephia, young professionals make up 40% of mobile phone game players. That means many of you know about Jamdat Bowling 2.There are other interesting facts in the Telephia study, too. Unlike console gaming, mobile gamers are more likely to be a little older (i.e., not 18-24) and female. Women purchase 65% of all mobile games, while 40% of all mobile games are purchased by users age 25 to 36. Put those two tidbits together and you have a great mobile channel that reaches young professional women.

While mobile gaming is growing -- nearly 17.4 million mobile consumers downloaded a mobile game last quarter, up 45% from a total of 12 million downloads a year ago -- growth is slowing in line with the overall wireless market. Just as I reported from 3GSM last month, the wireless market is maturing.
