Network Associates Inc. division McAfee is planning to announce the availability of ePolicy Orchestrator 2 on Monday. It will be the first anti-virus policy-management tool to provide both cross-vendor reporting and Internet-based anti-virus software management that handles up to 250,000 desktops, the company says.

Companies that want to ensure their anti-virus software policy is enforced for both McAfee's VirusScan and Symantec Corp.'s Norton AntiVirus can do so with the update. For example, the software will report the number of desktops running Norton, and what versions of the virus DAT files are installed, while VirusScan users will be able to enforce virus policy by pushing virus updates to all users on the network. The software also sends system alerts via E-mail, pagers, and other devices.

Michael Callahan, director of product marketing for McAfee, says the new version also will support multiple languages, including German, Spanish, and French. Pricing starts at $17 per node for 500 nodes.
