Men plan to spend up to 15 percent more online this holiday season than women, a survey released Friday showed.

The survey of 6,250 web shoppers found that men expected to spend an average of $326 versus $284 for women, America Online Inc. said. On a monthly basis, men spend an average of $204, compared with $186 for women.

The survey also found that men are willing to spend $1,751 for a single item online versus $787 for women, and 42 percent of men shop for luxury goods, compared with 35 percent of women.

Men research or browse online an average of 31 times a month versus 22 times for women, AOL, a division of Time Warner Inc., said.

The survey was conducted from Aug. 19 through Sept. 9 through Opinion Place, an online research site.
