Men spend more time on cell phones than women do, according to an ICR survey.
For years, women have endured jokes about the time they spend talking on the phone. But a new survey may put an end to that.
Men spend 35% more time on their cell phones than women do, according to a survey of 879 respondents conducted by International Communications Research for Cingular Wireless. Men talk an average of 372 minutes a month, compared with an average of 275 minutes a month for women, the survey found.
"It's just interesting information, and somewhat shocking," says Greg Roberts, director of segment marketing for Cingular. "Especially for the guys that were accusing the women for talking on the cell phone so much. A couple of bets have been paid off."
The survey found that men use their cell phones more often for business. Seventy-eight percent of conversations by women were chats with friends and family vs. 64.5% for men. Men said 33% of their conversations were business related, compared with 20% for women.
