Microsoft is close to settling the class-action suit brought by consumers and some states. The company last week agreed to a five-year plan to supply computer equipment and training to more than 12,500 of the nation's poorest elementary and secondary schools in a settlement agreement filed with the Federal District Court of Maryland. A public hearing on the agreement will be held on Nov. 27 in Baltimore. The proposed plan will cost Microsoft an estimated $1.1 billion.
