Speaking at Microsoft's Mix '08 conference for Web developers, company CEO Steve Ballmer revealed some of his thinking about what "Microhoo" might consist of, and what the company plans to do with Danger's mobile technology.According to Ballmer, either Yahoo Mail or Hotmail would likely not survive the merger: "It doesn't make sense to have two mail services," he said. And while Yahoo's Web services are largely built on open-source PHP applications, Microsoft does not plan to move everything to .Net and Windows Server, at least not right away. Ballmer said that both technologies would have their place: "I'm sure a bunch of [the open source services] will be running at high scale and in production for a long time to come," he said.

Regarding mobile vendor and Sidekick manufacturer Danger, which was acquired by Microsoft last month, Ballmer said that Microsoft intended to bring the good things about the Sidekick to the Windows Mobile operating system. "The Danger acquisition is really about building up an application and service aspect on top of our Windows Mobile platform," he said. "Danger is really a service application experience and we want to make sure we get that in market on a great set of phones."CNET News, information
