Convergence 2008 attendees today will get a preview of Microsoft's next-gen ERP application for the midmarket.Dynamics AX 2009, code-named AX 5.0, includes a new compliance center feature, enhanced global capabilities, more than 30 "role centers," or templates, that provide information to managers and workers based on their specific jobs, and real-time communication and collaboration capabilities.

Dynamics AX 2009 is expected to hit the market by the middle of this year.

Also out of Microsoft: an expanded relationship with EDS to extend Microsoft Dynamics CRM further into the call centers of midmarket and enterprise companies; the general availability this spring of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Live; a new online service for Dynamics ERP and CRM applications that enables integration with such Web sites as eBay and PayPal; and new tools to help customers migrate to Dynamics GP from QuickBooks.ChannelWeb
