Microsoft has made another video that pokes fun at itself, this time about Windows Marketplace for Mobile. It also seems to be taking a few swipes at other app stores, namely the Apple App Store. It isn't mentioned specifically, but once you view the video, you'll see some of the absurd apps Microsoft was pretending to work on. I bet more than one of them is in the iPhone App Store. With over 75,000 apps, there has to be at least one mustache simulator, right?TechCrunch has a link to the video clip. It shows two guys in lab coats supposedly going over failed app concepts.

The mobile application store has helped make the iPhone a star. Microsoft just launched their store with Windows Mobile 6.5. Right now, that is one of its shortcomings. As a percentage of Windows Mobile devices, 6.5 has virtually no share compared to 6.0 and 6.1, which have been out for a few years. It will be a few months before the older devices have access to the catalog.

They have an insignificant amount of apps compared to the iPhone App Store, but that is probably a good thing. The truth is there are thousands of Windows Mobile apps out there and Microsoft is in the process of adding them to the store, but with their policies and fees, apps where you shake babies or calculators that only add and subtract won't be there. That junk just clutters the catalog when you are looking for something useful. That is why dozens of "App of the Day" sites and feeds have popped up. Those aren't nice to have. With 75,000 apps, they are a necessity.

Hopefully Microsoft's app store will avoid that problem. If not, someone will no doubt be making a humorous video poking fun at it.
