Microsoft last week released a final beta version of Project 2002 and said it will raise the price of the project-management software by $100 per desktop. Project Standard will have an estimated retail price of $600 vs. $500 for Project 2000. A new Project Professional edition will be priced at $1,000. Project Server will be priced at $800, plus $179 for each client-access license to the server. Microsoft says it will discontinue its online collaboration offering, Project Central, when it ships Project 2002 in the second quarter of 2002.
