The economic downturn has led to a downward trend for advertising, but the mobile market is bucking that trend, according to a new report from Jupiter Research.

The report, which is titled "Mobile Advertising: Delivery Channels, Business Models, & Forecasts," said the mobile advertising market is expected to grow to $5.7 billion by 2014. One of the main drivers of this growth is the fact that most consumers have mobile devices on them nearly all the time, and the always-connected nature of the device.

Jupiter Research said the response rate for mobile advertising has been higher than alternative methods, and the mobile Internet will be the most popular method of delivering mobile ads. While the growth in mobile advertising will lead to a strong market, it will still only represent about 1.5% of the total global spending on advertising, the report said.

"Regardless of mobile's advantages -- its personal nature, the facility for highly targeted advertising -- advertising will not commit more budget until they perceive that the audience for their advertisements has reached a critical mass," said report author Windsor Holden in a statement.

The growth in mobile advertising has led to a slew of startups looking to capitalize on this surging market. Multiple companies have targeted Apple's iPhone as a platform because its users tend to surf the Web more, and iPhone users are comfortable downloading and installing new programs from the App Store. Medialets is one of those companies, and it has created an advertising platform that enables developers to offer rich media adds that are built into iPhone apps.

With mobile devices taking on increasingly important tasks for enterprises, some companies may be facing trouble without a mobile device management plan. information analyzed this issue in an independent report, and it can be downloaded here (registration required).
