Mobile Phone Running Windows XPMobile Phone Running Windows XP
Technology Group, a Chinese company, launched a mobile phone at Computex that runs Windows XP. This is the OS that just won't die. Netbooks gave XP a reprieve, at least until Windows 7 ships, and now at least one phone is running XP. Could this OS have a life into the next decade?

Could this OS have a life into the next decade? The phone will have a number of configurations according to UMPC Portal. SSD sizes range between 8GB and 64GB while hard drives range from 30GB to 120GB. I don't care how far advanced HDD technology has gotten, I'm not sure I'd trust one as much abuse as a cell phone gets.
The phone will between 512MB and 1GB of RAM on it, which should be fine for an XP based machine. The screen is 800x480 and support touch, so maybe this is based on the Tablet PC bits.
As for wireless, it supports just about the entire alphabet of wireless technologies: GSM/GPRS/EDGE/WDCMA, CMDA/CDMA2000, EVDO, SCDMA HSDPA, 802.11g, WiMax, Bluetooth and GPS.
It actually will have a single full sized USB port as well as a mini-USP port. I guess you could put the phone on a stand and use a full sized keyboard or mouse. I haven't seen anything on dimensions, but I doubt this is a very svelte phone. No price has been announced either.
I wonder how successful this will be? I doubt it will be coming to North America. OQO tried for years to make ultra-small computers without much market success. They just closed down their operations in the last month or so. Desktop based operating systems don't generally have the responsiveness of embedded systems so while it might be nice to fire up Excel and work on a spreadsheet, it might be frustrating to do something as simple as find a contact.
You have to give Technology Group credit for trying.
