After three months of online job demand growth, the trend reversed slightly in April, according to the Monster Employment Index.

"The April findings of the Monster Employment Index show a very slight dip in online recruitment activity last month, which is not surprising given the Index's strong 19-point rise during the first quarter," Steve Pogorzelski, group president, Monster Worldwide International, said in a statement Thursday.

The Index is up 24 percent over the past year, the firm noted.

In April, military-related online recruitment activity showed the sharpest decline in the wake of intensive recruitment efforts earlier in the year. However, construction industry hiring efforts " influenced by warmer weather " rose dramatically, the online careers firm said.

"The mild decline in online job demand measured in April is more than likely an indication that online hiring activity is just shifting to a more sustainable growth pace," Pogorzelski said.
