Motorola will hold a media event in New York on July 28. The company has released few handsets this year, and appears to be ready to refresh its lineup of flagship and mid-range devices. Motorola provided several clues that tip us off about what might be on deck.

"We need to talk," said Motorola in a July 16 post on its official blog. "It's not you. It's your phone. Sure, we know you love and depend on it, but the time has come for all your care and devotion that you show your phone to be returned. We have some news to share, so tune in to find your perfect Moto match. A better mobile relationship is headed your way."

Motorola has several handset lines: The Moto X flagship, the Moto G mid-ranger, and the Moto E entry-level. It also sells several Droid variants with Verizon Wireless. Motorola updated the Moto E early this year, so don't expect to see a new version of its inexpensive powerhouse. Instead, the invitation alludes to the X and G, which is what will likely be the focus of July 28's event.

Several details about the next-generation Moto G have come to the fore in recent days. For example, it is believed that Motorola will extend its Moto Maker customization tool, until now reserved for the Moto X, to the Moto G line. Moto Maker is the ingenious online design studio that allows people to mix and match various colors, materials, and surfaces to create their own unique phone.

Other leaks suggest the Moto G will feature a 5-inch 720p display, a Snapdragon 410 processor, an Adreno 306 GPU, and a 13-/5-megapixel camera configuration. Oh, and it might be water resistant, too.

We don't know as much about the next-generation Moto X. Motorola pushed boundaries with the X last year, adding leather to the wood and plastic material options in Moto Maker. It also boosted specs significantly. The company will certainly improve the Moto X's innards with the latest silicon and other components, but what it will do with the design, if anything, is unknown.

The other possible product revelation on deck for July 28 is a new Moto 360 smartwatch. The current 360 -- one of the most popular Android Wear devices so far -- has been on sale for a year. Motorola and its retail partners have dropped the price of the wearable significantly since May, perhaps clearing out inventory ahead of a refresh.

information will be on hand July 28 to bring you all the details.
