It's back. Almost. Napster, the music file-sharing service that shut down last spring to comply with a court order, launched a beta test of its fee-based music subscription service last week. The service is expected to formally launch in six to eight weeks. A Napster spokesman says the company rewrote 98% of the service's code in order to improve security, enhance features, and ensure royalty payments.
