Movie and television viewers will soon be able to get their Netflix through TiVo DVRs and Xbox game consoles.

The developments are the latest in a series of recent steps to expand the ways that viewers can access the online movie store.

Earlier this week, Netflix announced that most of its Mac subscribers would be able to watch their movie rentals using Microsoft Silverlight. The company began deployment of the platform with some new subscribers Monday. It will be available to all subscribers by the end of the year.

The Silverlight media player provides users with improved fast-forwarding and rewinding capabilities, as well as PlayReady DRM, which allows playback on Windows-based PCs and Macs

Netflix also plans to launch a "Watch Instantly" service next month, allowing Xbox 360 owners to watch about 300 hi-definition, and 12,000 standard resolution, movies via their game consoles, according to a report in Silicon Alley.

The publication also reported Thursday that TiVo Series 3, TiVo HD, and TiVo HD XL recorders will be able to stream Netflix video. Netflix and TiVo planned to begin testing the service in several thousand U.S. homes immediately and follow-up with an expanded rollout in December, according to the report.

In addition to the recently announced formats, Netflix subscribers can access video through computers, television sets with Netflix-ready devices, and disk players.

Netflix offers subscriptions for as low as $9 per month. The company offers instant streaming and rentals. It counts more than 8 million subscribers and 55 distribution centers in the United States.
