Hewlett-Packard's new chief executive, Mark Hurd, has reversed one of the last moves made by his predecessor and created a new division for the company's notebook and desktop PCs. He also named a former palmOne Inc. executive to run the reorganized unit.

Todd Bradley has been named executive VP of the Personal System Group, which also includes handheld computing devices, monitors, workstations, and related support services. Bradley most recently was at palmOne, where he spent three years as president and chief executive. His hiring will help HP "re-establish" the Personal System Group as a standalone business, the company said in a statement Monday.

The businesses within the Personal System Group were combined with the Imaging and Printing Group in January. Vyomesh Joshi, who had served as executive VP of the combined group, will resume his former role as head of imaging and printing.

"Todd Bradley is an outstanding executive with a long track record of growing businesses, executing against plans, and exceeding targets," Hurd said in a statement. "By managing PSG and ISG as separate, highly focused organizations, we can further sharpen our competitiveness and improve our cost structures."

Former HP chairman and chief executive Carly Fiorina was fired by the HP board in February. Hurd was named president and chief executive in March.
