IntelliCorp is offering its new SAP application life-cycle-management software on a short-term subscription basis.

Solo for SAP and Assessor for SAP can help companies understand how their SAP R/3 apps are used. They also determine how much custom code a system has, and how installed applications differ from the latest versions available from SAP. That kind of insight can help IT departments plan SAP maintenance work and upgrades, according to IntelliCorp. Both products are based on IntelliCorp's NetProcess software.

But unlike NetProcess, which is sold with a perpetual license, Solo and Assessor will now be sold on a short-term subscription basis the vendor calls "point-in-time" licenses. The short-term subscription model is a fit for companies that need the analysis tool only for specific projects, says AMR Research analyst John Hagerty. "It addresses how people want to use this software," he says.

Solo creates a quick snapshot of an SAP environment in as little as an hour. Assessor provides a more comprehensive analysis, including assessing transaction-level details that would affect an upgrade or consolidation of multiple instances of SAP apps.
